*sigh*
If we hadn’t signed up for the educational DVD club thing, we could totally have been able to pay for a WoW account for me. But my kids’ entertainment and education is far more important than my game playing, especially since I’d probably only play for a few hours a month. I wish that they had an hourly pay scheme, for people like me who maybe only play ten hours a month’s worth of video games. Still wish we could afford a couple accounts…
Though if I could get my husband into it, we’d probably play together for an hour a day, to unwind. (That’s why we play Warcraft 3, AoE, and AoM - though he kicks my butt at the Age games, and I beat him down in Warcraft.)
No Response for "I’ll have to try this…"
it’s crack cocaine in digital form!
though, if you place WC3… would love to play sometime… I don’t enjoy going online with all those 12 year olds with the 3 minute rush of doom that ends the game before it’s started.
AoE=Age of Empires and AoM=Age of Mythology?
Jo and I play far too much of both :)
Aww .. the family that plays (computer games) together … *grin*
I never really got into Warcraft. I did like the unit replies in Warcraft II though … “Who wants to sing?” “Stop rocking the boat!” “Do you touch the other elves that way?” *evil grin*
On the other hand, I’m a strategy fanatic … AOE, AOM, Total War (all of them), Dawn of War, CivIII and CivIV, and the list just keeps going … its an obsession, I’m sure … not only do I have the games, I have all their expansions too.
i finally too madelines birth announcement off my fridge — a little delayed, huh!>?
I never got into World of Warcraft. It just never appealed to me, but then again, most MMORPG’s don’t. I’m glad to hear that you got Pan and Tink some educational shows. I could probably help you out there if you wanted me to. Maybe get you some copies of stuff and send them in the mail when I can, but I would need to know what kinds of things you want for them - be specific, okay? :)
Hourly play would probably wreck their profit model. Under a monthly model, they get at least 1.8 cents an hour. But that’s only if the person plays every hour of the month. Someone who only plays two hours a night, is paying 25 cents an hour.
If the average player plays 22 to 23 hours a week (http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/archives/001365.php), then they pay about 15 cents an hour. Hourly fees for WoW would likely be around 15 to 20 cents an hour in order to match it to the average playstyle. If you play less than 90 hours a month (3 hours a day), an hourly plan would be cheaper for you and more expensive for them.
These numbers are just rough estimates. The actual calculations would introduce some error ranges (28-31 days in a month for example).
Yup yup! Since I’m an RPG fan and my hubs is a Tom Clancy espionage game fan, we meet in the middle with the strategy war games, since it’s the one game genre we both like.
We have Age of Empires I, II, and III plus the expansions, Age of Mythology with expansion - we want to get Civ IV, but I don’t know if my graphics card can handle it (I think so, but we don’t want to buy it then find out we need to go spend another hundred bucks on a graphics card!) - we’ve never tried Dawn of War…
But yeah, the strategy games is the one genre both my hubby and I like a lot.
The next big thing I want to get them is Signing Time - Pan still loves to use signs, even though he’s starting to talk (he realized this morning he could ask for “more apples, please” even with his mouth full!).
I’ve also got to get this kid off his “Chicken Little” kick - we watch that movie almost every other day. Yeesh!
We also have a few Baby Einsteins left to get - both kids love those. And I personally like them, too, since they don’t have annoying music.
In the videos we just got, we have a 5 DVD set that explains the Ten Commandments through the life of a little Israelite boy - they’re pretty cute, and Pan loves em (I try to make it so on Sunday we watch spiritually appropriate things).
Mostly I’m just looking for videos that teach them useful things, things that can help them think about the world around them - I’m also on the hunt for the new Elmo potty training DVD, and I want to see if I can find the Elmo exercise video. If my kid is going to watch TV, I want him to be able to learn from it, both about mental things, as well as physical activity.
See, I would estimate at most, 30 hours a month - and that would be total game time, as in, we stopped playing all our other games to play Wow…
That would totally make hourly worth it, for us. But as you point out - totally less worth it to them. And since I know Matt would still want to play strategy games sometimes, I’d see it as more like 15 hours of WoW a month - and that’s like, a buck an hour at their monthly pay rate. Yuk.
What happens if you go in and pay for one month, and then don’t play for a month - can you pick back up later? Like if we decided to pay every other month?
Well, since I don’t work with that age group of kids, you’d have to be specific in terms of what programs you want me to acquire for you. I’m not sure what’s out there and what’s good right now.
Dont really know. I had to go look up that info just to make those calculations.
That’s my same problem - I don’t know everything that’s out there for the toddler/preschool age kids :-/
We’re also addicted to books - right now we are in the board book phase - my little man is not to be trusted alone with paper books, because he forgets to be gentle, sometimes. Cardboard is much safer!
Hehehe…you are forgetting that you and I both will be home during the day. I would be more than happy to run you around and help you level.
The best way to pay every other month is to get a game card at GameStop.
